Doing my best to part together a sweet 3 inch V2 Atom frame.

3/28/17 Sirin V1 Flight Controller was not responding when I run Betaflight. I'm not sure if this is a laptop issue as my PC recently crashed and reverted to Windows 7.

3/29/17 UPDATE: I ran a great program that cleaned up the drivers needed to find the port for the FC.

My Norton Antivirus did not like it at all. I took a chance with my older laptop and it worked amazingly well connecting my FC right away and opening the serial ports which had previously been rejected.

Thus far I have the motors, frame, Sirin V1 Rev F, and 4 in 1 ESC.

3/30/17 Today I soldered the motors to the 4 in 1 ESC with the lipo leads facing the rear of the frame. This caused the ESC motor order to be out of normal BF configuration order (1, 2, 3, 4) and it was 2, 3, 4, 1. I soldered the signal wires to the FC accordingly. Signal 2 to M1, Signal 3 to M2, etc.

I soldered an XT60 to the ESC wire leads and a 5V 1amp Polulu to the Lipo +/-. For Voltage Out on the Polulu I sent a small strip of wire to the 5V pad on the Sirin.

I spliced my VTX pigtail and used the Pantaloon Method to solder the braided sheath to the ground pads on the Sirin.

4/4/17 I soldered the loose ground from the ESC harness to an open spot on the Sirin. I also soldered the camera in place and found that it does not fit with the provided mounts in the Atom kit. I'll need to rig that somehow if I want to keep this cam. Fitting everything under the Atom hood has been a bit of an issue. It's very tight in there and I'll need to go with some shorter standoffs and the smaller Flysky RX FS-A8S. The X6B just would not go in no matter how it was oriented.

4/5/17 I soldered the FS-A8S to the board using IBUS and the light came on. Did a power test with a small lipo and I got ESC beeps but the last 2 were very slow. Wondering if that's an issue. Going to rearrange the stack and reconnect to Betaflight.

4/7/17 I connected to BLHeliSuite and flashed my ESCs. They are beeping nicely. I bound the FS-A8S but a small fire started on the SIRIN board and a capacitor thingie melted as it was sitting on the bench doing nothing. I have no idea what went wrong but the SIRIN is now dead. I've taken everything apart except the motors.

4/10/17 Purchased a Flycolor Raptor stack. http://www.banggood.com/Flycolor-Raptor-S-4-In-1-BLHeli-S-30A-ESC-DShot-Integrated-OSD-with-F3-Flight-Controller-p-1118202.html? But it's taking Banggood forever to ship it. These are now available through Amazon Prime for quite a few dollars more.

4/27/17 After many days at sea, my Flycolor stack is almost here. The tracking says it's in a town about 20 minutes away from my home. The anticipation is palpable. It tastes like victory is just on the horizon. I'll be pretty happy to work on this Atom again.

5/5/17 This morning I soldered the motor wires to the ESC pads of the Flycolor stack. I did not use shrink wrap over the arms before soldering and felt stupid afterward for not doing it. I'm going to tape them down but it won't look as clean. The oval pads are amazingly easy to solder with lots of room to work. The stack is set in the frame and sits pretty low but when I added my Q25 VTX/Cam it looks like it's just a little too high to fit nicely. I'm going to have to go with a nut/rubber ring rather than a 5mm standoff. Looking at the stack I realized there are no pads for VTX or RX. There's several molex type plugs and I'll have to research what each does.

5/6/17 I attempted to wire in the Hobbymate AIO VTX/Camera to the 12v plug on the FC. Too bad it only handles 5v and melted when I connected to Lipo power. My FS-A8S did bind successfully with PPM. It says it does SBUS but I don't think that's an option for a Flysky Transmitter. I tried a test fit of my DALProp 3045's and they did not clear the Atom V2 Canopy. They just barely scrape the edges. For the FC stack I had to go with nuts. rubber rings, and 10mm screws below the ESC. At the top rear of the stack I used 7mm nylon standoffs. The threads stick out of the top of the canopy and can be tightened down with nuts.

5/9/17 The RK3076 props from RaceDayQuads arrived in 2 days and fit amazingly well. Color matches the hood too. I double sided taped my FS-A8S to one side of the FC and the Eachine VTX03 to the other side. Buttoned up and ready to fly!

5/20/17 I attempted to maiden the quad but it doesn't appear that my RX bound properly. The red light stayed solid but not getting any signal for my arm switch in Betaflight. Swapped to another FS A8S I had and it recognized it. Put the quad down to take off and the prop nuts are coming loose when the motors spin up. I have the righty-tighty nuts on motors 2 and 3 and lefty tighty nuts on motors 1 and 4. I thought that was how it's supposed to go. I ordered some new Brother Hobby 1407 motors so I don't know how much more effort I'll put into these Woafly ones. I might be able to rectify the issue by going "Props Out."

05/27/17 I plugged the stack into BLHeli Suite and realized my motors are all spinning in "Normal" direction. I changed Motors 1 and 4 to be reversed. Motors are now spinning correctly and I should get lift.

06/01/17 I took the Atom out to a local park for a maiden. I went LOS to start to make sure I could get it off the ground. Sure enough I had lift and a quick LOS figure 8 went well. I tried to FPV but 30mph gusting winds made flight extremely difficult. I went back to LOS and got some pretty good distance and speed out of the quad.

06/24/17 I received my Brother Hobby 1407 3600kv motors and installed them on the quad. A quick props off test showed me that these are more powerful than any motor I've used prior. I'm pretty stoked about the possibilities this quad will have now.

07/18/17 - I've gotten 2 full flight sessions in with the 1407's and WOW are they amazing. I had my camera tilt way too high previously and have since adjusted. I wasn't able to go any slower than 1/2 throttle and I was really buzzing at that speed. This thing is lightning quick. It handles very well even on PPM. I'm very impressed with the Flycolor Raptor stack. Currently running the DYS props because they fit best. Pretty tough but they do bend around the hubs on harsh landings. You can bend them back but beware the wear.

How did it go with the Flycolor Raptor stack? I just ordered the 4'' frame and was thinking of using this setup.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
