Finished building my first Quad

Expensive way to learn I'm a terrible pilot and can barely hover in place for 5 seconds. Have a new respect for all the pilots out there.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Wanted to put my 3D printer to use and make a design that was functional and aesthetically pleasing. The Custom 3D printed frame mounts (in blue TPU) weight < 6g if my napkin math is correct.

Working on my first RC hobby project has been very rewarding and I’ve learned so many things. After I upgrade my piloting skills by practicing with this micro I’m planning to build a 5” freestyle mini quad.

Upgrade Plans:

  • Switch to XT30 connector and higher C LiPo’s.
  • Replace twisty-tie holding FPV camera with something more elegant.
  • Cut black nylon spacer bolts to match height
  • Thinking of adding some side plates to protect the ESC pads (they would mostly be decorative because of how light this thing already is).

This is a really cool build! Super clean with all the printed parts.

Great design work! PS the 5 inch quads are much easier to build and predictable to fly, if you can fly the micro you'll have an easy time with the 5"

Good to know. I was rather meticulous when I designed and built it. A fun puzzle to fit everything into a tiny space. Really need to work on my stick control. Everything I've read/watched says not to dumb down the controls to be less sensitive. I'm using the default BetaFlight tune to get a feel before I over complicate things and keep changing numbers.

I found default PIDs to be ok on my 5" but oscillated like crazy on my micro, particularly on 3s. Albert Kim has some good start PIDs on his youtube vids for 2s or 3s micros.

That looks great! Are the 3D models available?

Thanks, I may upload them to my Thingiverse after a little clean up.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
