This was my first build. I'm posting this mainly for other first time builders to use as a reference if they want to go the 3.5" route with HDZero Freestyle V2 VTX. The build is heavily influenced by the "One Man Unmanned" build on YouTube, with some changes to accomodate the Freestyle V2 VTX. The latest Grinderino frame supports mounting the motors he wanted to use, but couldn't, in the video. I have roughly an hour of flight time on this build and it's a joy to fly. No issues to call out. I will be adding 3D prints for protection and antenna routing, but they will not be included in this 'guide'.

Some notes in no particular order:

  • Most builds have the capacitor wired in the same location as your XT30 cable. The size of this particular VTX and frame does not allow room for that. I used some 24ga wire to route the capacitor under the ESC near the front. Use shrink tubing (or electrical tape if that's all you have) on your capacitor leads to avoid shorting to your frame or anything else. I included a screenshot illustrating what that looks like.
  • For the VTX: wire RX > T1 and TX > R1.
  • I couldn't find anything on whether the VTX should be oriented logo-side up, or down. In retrospect It might be better to mount it logo-side down in case you need quick access to the antenna. The antenna 'routes' better the way I went, though.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
