UPDATE: Since originally starting this rotorbuilds mockup, I've killed my runcam split mini and switched over to the caddx turtle. I've also started using gemfan 3035 props and updated to betaflight 3.5.2. Got it flying more or less okay. I like the build, but I would like to try it with more appropriate motors at some point too. Scroll past the videos to see my original writeup that I started a couple months back, haha.

I titled this 1.0 because I will likely be making changes to it. So far actually flies quite nicely even on these "underpowered" DYS 1404 motors. Right now I'm just struggling a bit with the tune, but that's hardly to do with the frame and most likely a side effect of the motors. I may ditch 3.4 and go back to butterflight if I can't lock it in.

The frame itself is very well thought out (clearly) and I would recommend anyone interested in it go read the thorough write-up over at http://acrobrat.com/ to see the process and thought behind all the decisions. The triple stack is great, kinda tight but necessary to keep the CG good and make sure it doesn't get too big. Its a chunky frame but again this is by design. I did already have a pretty major crash and it came out unscathed. I actually ejected the SD card (so much for the runcam split mini's little metal "catch") but I was able to find it amazingly in the grass. Good arguement for recording DVR so you can see the exact moment of impact haha.

I'll be posting more videos on this as I can on my youtube channel if anyone is interested. I think most builds are with a larger motor like 1306/1407 with most people recommending the 1407. If I can get the tune down, I can probably recommend the DYS 1404s as well. Makes it a lighter build, much quieter, and gives you even more freedom to fly in smaller places without being super obnoxious which is one of my primary desires in a 2.5-3" quad like this.

Not the cleanest build, don't judge lol!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
