This is my first build. I started out with a eachine wizard about 2 years ago, It served me well for the first couple of months, but the terrible camera quality, lack of range and unreliable battery mounting added up to a not enjoyable experience. I was doing 10x more troubleshooting than actually learning to fly. It turned into more of a burden than a fun hobby, so I set down fpv and decided that I would save up the money (I was 13 and didn't have a job at the time so funds were short) to build something that was worth flying. after about 2 years I decided to take another stab at fpv and put together a parts list.
For the most part the build went smoothly, I had some trouble with a broken bind button but got it resolved in the end. I would recommend a hotter soldering iron, as the ts100 has at hard time for larger joints, like the xt60. at first I was planning on doing a six inch build, so i bought the 6 in badger, but later decided to go for the 5 in arms instead. I would have prefered and recommend the 5 in marmotte.
Armattan Badger - "Honey badger dont care, Honey Badger doesn't give a shit"
Holybro Kakute F7 + Tekko32 esc - I cant really compare this to any other FCs out there because this is my first build, but the Kakute seems like a really solid option. It supports about anything you could ever put on a mini quad, and seems to have a good layout. there are many good soldering diagrams on the internet. The Tekko32 seems to be holding its own, also a really solid all around option. with 40a it is far more then I need for 4s.
iFlight Zing x2207 - These motors feel smooth, look great and come at a reasonable price. They are an all around great motor. There seem to be quite a few motors in this price range with similar quality, but I decided on these for their asthetics I think the pink and blue goes well with the build, same with the motor wires.
Foxeer Falkor 2 Mini - Good camera, right size for the frame, looks nice on the outside and through the goggles. wonderful upgrade from the eachine wizard's 2.8 mm lens. Highly recommend.
Tbs Unify Pro HV - what is there to say, one of the best vtxs out there. Smart Audio, up to 800mw, pit mode and easy to install. A lot of vtxs claim that they can go up to 800mw, but barely reach 500mw, the Unify can go to over 800mw and stay there for a whole flight.
R-XSR - seems like a good receiver all around, might upgrade to crossfire later. Because I am using the Taranis X9 Lite, I had to flash a new frimware to the reciever, and messed that up. Took me a while to realize that I had the wrong firmware, but It worked out in the end.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
