Simple Gecko Vista HD

This might be the cleanest build for me yet. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. I originally intended on using the Holybro stack but had some issues with it. Ordered the newbeedrone infinity stack and I'm super impressed. I'm becoming more and more a newbeedrone fan. Just got this done but i flew a few packs in the backyard today. Need to figure out the quietest 3" props as i don't want my neighbors to get mad. Any suggestions?

one more question ... did you connect the Vista directly to the battery ?

matty100   Aug 03, 2020

Hi,
super clean build ... i am planning to replace my runcam split with the Vista ... i have a few questions

  1. did you have a problem fitting the DJI camera into the Gecko camera mount? i think its slightly bigger then the standard micro cam ?
  2. What antenna coax length did you order ... it seems there are two lengths 8 and 12cm ? was it the stock antenna that came with the unit ?
  3. How did you secure the vista antenna ?

Thanks
Matty

Super clean brah! Did you have to modify anything on the vista to get it to fit? I.E. longer cables or adapters? Im looking to build something similar. Thanks in advance!

thanks! didn't have to mod the vista at all actually. pretty straight forward. btw, i LOVE the infinity NBD stack. highly recommended.

how did you connect your crossfire ? did you have to cut the yellow wire from the vista ?

DMS_FPV   Jun 03, 2020

yes, the wiring setup is the same as the air unit so you can follow instructions on setting up crossfire when using an air unit.

This looks great, you inspired me to build one just like it! How did you go about mounting the crossfire antenna?

that's great! i just used zip ties for now, but i might 3d print a mount in the future.

Did you use an xt60 connector? what batteries are you running?

DMS_FPV   May 11, 2020

The xt60 came with the ESC but I switched to xt30 right away. I tried a whole mess of batteries and for me with the 4100kv motors the 3s 550mah GNB were the ticket flying my backyard. I'll try 4s again when I go to the field.

cool, thank you. I am going to do a similar build and was looking at the emax eco 1408 3300s motors and 650mah 4s batteries. Do you think the 4107 4100s would have better punch on the gecko?

DMS_FPV   May 12, 2020

They've got plenty of punch for me on 3S. I've got some 3300s on the way that i might do a similar build with but they've been on order over a month from China so I'm not holding my breath. My guess is there 3300s would be nicer for smooth cinematic flying and more le drib type freestyle.

Sweet build! Is it possible to fit the DJI air unit in instead of the Caddx Vista? What's your final weight without the battery and go pro?

DMS_FPV   May 10, 2020

thanks! sitting at 199 grams. doubt an air unit would fit. it was tight with the vista. after a few days flying i LOVE this thing. my favorite quad to fly easily. just order another infinity stack for my next 5" Marmotte build, also with a vista!

I'm sure you've seen it but looks like it's been done! https://rotorbuilds.com/build/23024

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
