I wanted to build a 5 inch quadcopter for a long time but never really came around to do it. Recently I finally decided to pull the trigger; I am so glad I did it!!
This 5 inch quadcopter consists of the following parts:
Frame: the frame I chose for this build is the TBS Source One V0.2. The reason for this choice is that it is a cheap frame, whilst still offering great motor protection. I don't like the high stand-offs but it's ok. I decided to paint my frame blue with nail polish (see pictures).
Flight controller: The flight controller is a Matek F722SE. I chose this because it supports everything and I want to add GPS.
ESC's: My ESC's of choice are the Tekko32 F3's. I made the choice for individual ESC's because of the ease of swapping them out when one of them dies (I have had way too many ESC's die on me to take a risk on a 4 in 1 lol).
Motors: Brotherhobby returner R6 2207 1750kv. These motors are in my opinion one of the best 6s motors on the market, I also really like the color scheme.
FPV camera: the eye of the build is the Runcam Micro Eagle. It is my favourite micro/ full-size camera atm. My favourite fully micro camera would be the Foxeer Falkor.
VTX: AKK X2 Ultimate. Just a great VTX with lots of headroom (1.2W)
GPS: Beitan BN180. This is pretty much the cheapest GPS out there. It gets the job done.
Antenna: Lumineer long range axii. The only reason I have this super long antenna is because with the CNHL 1000mah 6s packs it sticks up waaaayy more than a normal quad (see pictures).
The building process was easier than expected, but took longer (since I am not used to individual ESC's). I had a bit too big spacers under the Flight Controller (see picture), but I think it turned out fine. I would also say that the nail polish paint job actually turned out pretty good (thanks sis for the nail polish!).
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
