Wanted to run a 5" Prop and 22xx's on the smallest possible frame. Ruled out the Tweaker as it's only 4" at the moment, and the Shrike/Krieger frames just didn't build the way I'd like them to. NOTE! I had a screw get into a motor winding with these SunnySky 2204's. Would recommend washers under the stock bolts. Otherwise your antenna turns the upper deck into a campfire. Added an antenna holder/LED mount, 3D printed using 3mm coffee stirrers.

Thoughts/Additions after flying for a few months:

  • Started with the Lumenier GoPro plate, ended up printing a 12 degree canted version. Footage is way better.
  • Lost all but one of the stock Sunnysky prop nuts. Lumenier Low Profile aluminum nuts seem to do the trick, but may be eating the motor shaft threads. Still inconclusive.
  • Went to DAL 5045 Race Triblades. Absolutely love the thrust and durability. Buy Buy Buy.
  • Was constantly breaking the right angle SMA adapters. I now run the antenna straight off the Tx and bend it up. No issues, survives 10x better than straight up using the hole in the frame. Will try the TBS Triumph's soon as well.
  • Had one of the RX701's lose a capacitor in a crash. Have potted the capacitor on the replacement, we'll see how it holds up. Would like to go to a Taranis anyway for the telemetry and a ditch the lipo buzzer.
  • Went ahead and switched over to FrSky. D4R-II and Taranis X9D Plus. Only real snag was the failsafe, you must get the D4R-II to send nothing upon signal loss for the cleanflight failsafes to engage. Shed about 20 grams overall in wiring, lack of lipo checker, and lighter components.
  • Also switched out all the standoffs to hex, managed to bend a few of the factory Lumenier ones.
  • Next upgrade will be a set of TBS Triumph's, whenever they get back in stock.

Very nice component and wire management! I like how you stacked the PDB, FC and RX

Thanks! The RX was a pain in the ass. Starting to see why the Devo stuff is less popular. Ended up decasing it and laser cutting a small plate so it can stack with the other stuff.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
