Quiet Bird Chaser

I built this to be light and quiet so I could maybe film some birds from a little bit closer. (nothing dangerous!) The Aquila is a nice frame, and the aerolites are really nice too, but the wire leaves the motor at an odd angle in relation to the foot so I had to go with this weird wire arrangement.

It was damn quiet, especially on a 3s 1100 lihv. However a very angry owl decided it was not quiet enough and silenced it for good! Ironically I wasn't trying to film any birds when the owl decided it was time for me to go. I was just flying a parking lot at night. The owl tagged the quad from above and the resulting crash broke a nickel tab on the li-ion, dinged two motors (you can guess where) and the naked gopro was...disassembled with extreme prejudice. I about shat when I saw the owl flying away from my spinning quad. I might upload some goggle dvr if I can find it again. The gopro settings we set for parking garage lighting, so I got nothing there.

I've got a twitching motor to deal with, but it will be back in the air with a peanut soon. :)

Here's some Hero 9 footage from the other day

Cool concept! Whats the all-up-weight on this build? Have you thought about trying some 8 blade props? They're supposedly very quiet.

I'm not sure of the weight. I'll update the build info with that when I get in in the same room as my scale. I'm down to try more blades. I need to find something t mount that will provide similar thrust to the 5" biblades.

I've been trying to learn about building quiet quads for watching deer. I haven't built anything yet, but it seems like its an uncommon thing to do. Still learning!
