This build actually have quite a long history. But, here it is after all my tinkering has settled down.

Its sturdy, smooth, fast, responsive and agile. And... its not floaty or slidey. With a little more fling than an average toothpick type build.

Adding up the parts list was a bit tricky since the FC and ESC used had become unavailable after covid did its thing. But essentially, I'm using a 2S F4 flight controller with 16x16 mounting pattern running Emuflight on top of a 10-15amp ESC with a 20x20 mounting pattern running Bluejay. A printed TPU adapter connects the two.

Originally I started with a 5-6a AIO which worked for a while before one ESC died quietly without drama. Thereafter I used a 6-8a 16x16 ESC which worked great and was cheap as chips. Burnt a few in spectacular fashion due my own negligence mostly, but I found that this type too didn't last long if crashed a lot. After getting tired of replacing ESC's, I decided to try a very old type and very heavy 20x20 ESC rated for 10-15a, 2-4s. Got in on discount sale. Think its a Cicada or Sunrise of some sort. Looked it up and it seems to hail from the FPV stone age but it works delighfully well. Not only does the quad somehow feel better in the air with this ESC, it also seems to be bulletproof as it hasn't given up the ghost yet despite frequent nasty crashes.

BUILD UPDATE 1:

I've decided to try the new Gemfan 2512 props on here and must say that I'm very impressed with the result. My initial impression is that it adds thrust and control to the bottom 40% of the throttle range when compared to the Gemfan 2023. The thrust and control in the 40%-100% throttle range is about the same as the 2023's. It also adds flight time as I get 6-7 minutes of flight time doing light freestyle and cruising, about 5 minutes when pushing it harder, so very efficient on 1103 motors.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
