I picked up a DJI 550 Flamewheel with plans on building a hex and things kind of just took off from there. The second picture with the red/white arms are the stock 550MM arms, they had too much flex in them for the size of motors and it had a crazy wobble. (220mm quad shown for scale, build here: https://rotorbuilds.com/build/946) I upgraded to some custom aluminum arms in the first picture that increase the size to 680MM. Flys like a dream now on its 12" props. I'm running 4S 5200Mah Tattu batteries, getting ~24mins of flight time per battery, and have a parallel XT60 cable for running both batteries at the same time, but I haven't had a need for flying for that long yet.
This guy is running a Naza M v2, I have some retractable landing arms, and the DJI Datalink system setup on my iPad mini for all the fun DJI information. I'm working on swapping over the X8R to an R9 Slim+, just need to make a breakout pin setup for all the servo wires I have on the X8R currently. Also planning on putting a VTX and FPV camera to FPV this bad boy, because why not?!
Update 5/18/2021
I've got my AKK FX2 VTX and Foxeer Arrow Mini mounted up, have it all tied in with the iOSD mini so I have all sorts of realtime info now. Also got an R9 Slim receiver for some 900mhz goodness. Can't wait to fpv this guy. :D
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
