The Karearea Talon 5 inch is a NZ based quad that is getting rave reviews for its "on rails" type handling. The vertical arms and aluminium parts make it an attractive and interesting build. It is my first "Race" quad with my others being primarily freestyle quads like Aliens and Chameleons.
Hopefully it flies as well as the reviews indicate it does.
Added Crossfire micro and AXII Stubbie Antenna 8-12-17
Nice one! I'm building a similar quad at the moment (same frame, motors, props, vtx). What your AUW one this quad? (without battery)
Did you get to fly it yet? How is it?
Cheers!
As per the photo above with everything including props and no battery it is 355g I have just changed the Antenna to an AXII ufl and added the GoPro mount base and it is 353g now (Without GoPro or housing). See picture with Go pro just added.
Have flown it for a few minutes and it is quick (in my opinion) and handles great.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

Hey it's me again! Hope you're still happy with your Talon. I'm facing some issues with D-term oscillations and I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to share you PIDs? I have almost the same quad for all intents and purposes so it would help me see if I'm way off for some reason.. Thanks!
Beeb,
Our builds are pretty similar but still very different. You are running a different FC, ESC's Higher KV motors and different props.
I don't have any oscillations and I am running fairly close to default Betaflight PID's with PT1, Dynamic Notch filter and all other filters including D-Term off.
Agreed that we have a different stack but it should not affect vibrations that much in my opinion. The higher KV motors is something to keep in mind indeed. We have the same props however (cyclone 5046 is what i use mostly). I didn't turn off d-term filtering and put back the two static notch filters because I was afraid of these vibrations, but it hasn't helped much. I'm thinking maybe my props were too much banged up (they had seen a few crashes) and this was not helping my cause... I'll have to try again with intact props and I'll probably lower my D terms. Thanks for the reply
