Golden Armattan Chameleon Ti

Not long after Armattan released their Rooster, they gave in to Chameleon fans and produced a slight variant of their amazing Chameleon frame, offering it with the Ti camera cage. Lots of builders out there were customizing their cages through an anodizing process. I opted to go with titanium nitride coating using physical vapor deposition. Obviously not something I can do myself, so sent the parts out to Titanium Gun in California. As the name suggests, they primarily coat firearm parts, but they have done non-firearm-related jobs for me in the past, and were happy to coat the two cam braces, a titanium standoff, and a couple of M3 button-head screws to complete the gold look. Turn around was about 7-10 days.

Build was fairly straighforward. The combination of the Matek FCHUB-VTX and F722 board, connected using the little ribbon cable as supplied with the FC, makes it a relatively clean build. I wanted the XT-60 out the back so I cut down the carbon fiber VTX holder supplied by Armattan. To make up for the resulting lost mount for receiver antennae, I used Shapeways to print off an antenna holder designed by Airmaxx23, same idea as the carbon fiber add-on sold by Armattan for the Chameleon.

FC updated to BF3.3, FCHUB-VTX updated with v1.5, and ESCs updated with latest firmware. R-XSR firmware was updated with FPort protocol and, following the directions on the Matek website for CLI syntax, it seems to work well; I have all channels responding in Betaflight, loads of telemetry on my Taranis, and looks like RSSI coming through on Ch. 16. Camera control working with cam OSD connected directly to S6 on FC (no resistor needed, it appears), otherwise followed Bardwell's video to get the resource mapping done.

Still haven't had a chance to maiden this thing (as of 30 March 2018) so maybe put a little asterisk on everything above until it's proven itself airworthy! Hope you enjoy it.

That gold is fantastic, what voltage did it take to get it that color?

Haha, would it be too much?! At that price I have to at least give 'em a try.

Thanks, definitely enjoyed the build. I just hope she flies as good as she looks!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
