Medusa MKI

After "My First Rotor" (see elsewhere here on RotoBuilds) I wanted to build something a bit more serious that could be flown outdoors without getting blown about too much by the wind. I wanted to stay cheap, as am still very much a rookie pilot and expect that I'll crash a lot and have to replace parts. For the internals I didn't mind paying a bit more as they are likely to be better protected and if she gets trashed reusable for Medusa MKII.

I tried to design this quad so I could scale the power by using lower or higher voltage batteries. So parts were chosen to work over a range of voltages. I also designed to use either 4 inch or 5 inch props to same effect . In the end I opted for the 5 inch props as the 312g battery I bought was quite a burden for the 4 inch. Next build I'll go for a lighter lower capacity battery and shorter flight time which should in theory provide better maneouverability.

The PDB is built into the FC.

No camera or VTX, yet.

Being a keen airbrush artist I have experimented with spray painting the carbon fibre frame. The paint adheres reasonably well, just by first lightly sanding the carbon fibre with 600 grit then cleaning it before applying the paint. I later added a protective clear coat.

The paint looks great! Best of luck with all your flight time!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
