This is a work in progress.

I am considering replacing the ReadytoSky motors (due to poor quality) with Sunnysky X2212 980kv or Emax MT2213-935KV motors.

Other items to add to this drone include:

  • Raspberry Pi 3 companion computer (for image recognition, interface with GoPro etc)
  • Gimbal for GoPro Hero4
  • Cellular data capability (using RP3 with 4G usb dongle or an Andorid phone)
  • Multiple batteries (depending on flight time and weight)
  • Ultrasonic range sensor
  • LEDs

First Test Flight:
Didn't go so well. Firstly, the thrust was a bit sluggish. Shortly after the first test flight at my local park, a dog decided to try jump over my drone while it was spooling up. Unfortunately, he landed on the drone and broke the GPS stand and a couple of props. Only a minor setback - on the brightside, I wanted to replace the props and buy a new GPS stand anyway.

Regarding the sluggish throttle - I am looking at some different props and motors. I will update once I have done a bit more research. All feedback and recommendations welcome!

Hi - please, tell me if you are done with this project. I like the frame and also looking at building something similar, or possibly hexacopter. If you are done - what is the flight time? Which battery are you using?

Hi mate, I haven't finished with the project because I've moved to a new house temporarily and haven't unpacked my workshop. The battery I was testing with was 3000mAh 3S 10C however the plan was to fit 2 larger batteries if possible. It was something I was going to play around with. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to test flight time.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
