My first frame was a Usmile 102mm frame that came with a lot of really great recommendations for motors and props that led me to a fun series of quads. I had been thinking of trying out a Y4 configuration when Usmile came out with theirs, so a happy coincidence.

The camera holders that came with the frame have been replaced with new holders have 3 holes to keep the camera at the desired angle versus the older ones that just had one hole.

The main M2.5 nylon standoffs have been replaced with M2 brass standoffs to improve the rigidity of the frame. After flying, I might go back to the nylon, as the frame is too heavy for the props it was designed for. I'll also probably downgrade the motors to 1104 to reduce weight.

The esc is turned 180 degrees from normal and the camera is raised a bit so that the battery cable can come out the front. If it went out the back like normal, then there would be a good chance that the cable would be clipped by the rear lower prop. Only two motors needed to be moved to alternate resources. The multi-colored wires on the sides extend the short motor wires down to the esc.

Note, this style of frame can spin fast, so turn off Runaway or you might lose control of your rig.

You're probably wondering about the ATX03 versus a stack-mount vtx that the frame was obviously designed for. That is there so that I can test a mico microphone board of friend of mine designed.

After flying this rig, I wouldn't recommend this particular frame and motor combination. It is too heavy for the 2.3" props that it was designed for. Look for other frames before trying this one.

Thanks Sindjinn, I appreciate your response. I like the Y4, but this may not the the best frame.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
