In this incarnation of the Rotorx Switchback i managed to cram all the components in there without using longer screws than the default 25mm ones. This is quite challanging in a 3 board stack. I initially had the HGLRC Zeus, which burnt after a few flights. Then i had the Hobbywing Nano Stack which resulted in a burnt motor. I could not figure out what the issue was, because the Hobbywing stack hab no blackbox capabilities. Therefore i swithced to the HGLRC F420 stack, which has flash memory for blackbox-logging. My motors would still run very hot on the RX344TXNG props even after detuning a loooot. Now with the HQ 3x3x3 i get a flyable long range capable quad at exactly 250gr. However, since i detuned a lot to cope with motor temperatures i need to fly around certain propwashy situation to get good video results. Initially i had frozen video proplems with the Runcam Split mini, but those were gone after swithcing to a quicker SD Card and powering the Split from 5V BEC.
I guess i can say this thing is still in progress. It flies ok for now, but not the way i think it could. The next steps are already planned:
1) Switch motors to the new Emax 1306B 4000kv
2) Use the new Talon F7 FC
3) Change to either Spedix IS25 or Aikon AK32Pin 25A if it ever gets released
The flight times as of now are well beyond 7 minutes on 850mah. The furthes distance i got without failsafing has been 1.4km, with a roundtrip voyage of about 4km.
UPDATE 1: Switched motors to the new Emax 1306B 4000kv, which are just amazing!
UPDATE 2: Switched HGLRC-Stack in favor of Talon F7 and the new version Spedix IS25 with integrated current meter.
And finally a quick note to HGLRC on their GPS module: Why the hell doesn't that thing come with silicone wires?!?!
1.4 km is quite impressive!
They say that the RX3044 prop was designed specifically for 1404 motors. I absolutely hated them on a couple of my 1404 builds. You have a rather heavy quad with that big battery. Try Emax Avan 3x2.4x3 props. They should work well. Edit: sorry, the Avans may not fit on the 1404 ver 2 because of the square top of the motor bell.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

hows the motors dude? i was supposed to buy those emax 1306 version 2 but i already had 2 dys 1404 4300kvs so i just bought 2 more. Any problem so far with those emax motors?
they are much more powerful than the 1404s and only roundabout 1gr heavier. So far I am pretty impressed with them. they come down ice cold, but I have only flown them in icy conditions so far... so we'll have to see about the temperature once it gets warmer.
and the flight time?
that depends, obviously, but is definitely a bit shorter than on 1404 3600kv. either the emax I can do 3.5min of freestyle with a 850mah. with the 1404 I never had the confidence to freestyle that way, so there is no comparison. when going mid/long range I was able too go for almost 10 minutes on 1404s. now it's 7min with the emax. but again: I have flown the 1404s during summer and fall, so 15+ degrees C. The emax arrived on December 5th, so they have never seen more than 3 degrees C 😂
hmmm 850 sounds big for me
It is too big for 1404 imho.
im still waiting for a 550...if you want ill tell you what 1404 is like with a smaller bat:-)
hey can i ask a favor. How long of a flight time do you get from those 1306 motors from something like a 550mah 4s (youre average freestyle ripping session). Im planning on changing to those motors but most of my batteries are 550mah. rn my 1404 motors get me around 5 mins, but i only really need 3 mins each. If you have any info about your flight time please do tell me :-)
I will try. My smallest 4S lipo has 850mah. I will ask my the guys from my local group whether someone has a 550mah.
