The Ummagawd frame finially arrived after pre ordering it back in Feb 2021. Overall, the build is simple and straight forward. While trying to keep the weight as low as possible I only 3D printed 2 parts, the motor wire cover and Caddix Vista spacer. All those items only added 1.16 grams of weight, which I think is acceptable. However, I am debating if I should switch the current battery connector from X60 to X30 so save me 3 more grams.

Whiles assembling the frame, I was too lazy to pull up an image of the frame from Ummagawds website, so I struggled a bit on the arms. But after a few tries I was able to figure the correct orientation. With a Naked Vista you can only expect max weight saving of about 10g. Also, switching out the stock antenna with an iFlight Sigma antenna, I was able to save another 1g. By using a Nebula Pro, I think you will save about 6 grams, compared to the caddx Vista.

My only complaints are the aluminum screws that was included. Sure, they are super light. But some of the hex on the screw are defective so it stripped easily. It is not a big deal, but I thought it is worth mentioning. Make sure you use some quality tool when tightening those screws. I do like that they included Titanium screws for the Ummagawd motors and frame. The frame only came with four Ti, screws but that is better than nothing.

First Test Flight Thoughts:

I flew this quad back-to-back in comparison to the BetaFPV XKnight 5” and they are totally different quads. I thought it would be similar, but I was wrong. The 2Fiddy feels more like a freestyle quad that is a little slower but better precision. The XKnight a lot faster and very sensitive. The interesting is that I am using the same PID’s and Rate profiles for both quads, but the differences are night and day. The weight difference between the quad is 20 grams, and the 2Fiddy is the lighter one. One last thing, that may make a huge difference are the props. The 2fiddy is using 2 blades and the XKnight is 3 blades. Later that day, I swapped out the tri blade props on the XKnight to Bi Blades, and it did not make a difference. The XKnight is still a rocket in comparison to the 2Fiddy. I’m not saying one is any better than the other, but they are 2 very different quads. I think the 2Fiddy is a better fit for my flying style.

Additional Changes

Alt Tag
I guess the aluminum screws are worse than I hoped so I end up swapping it all out with Titanium screws and I only gained an extra 2 grams. Also, the Ummagawd battery straps are a tad shorter than I like, because of the larger 550mah and 650mah 6s lipos I run. So, a good replacement is the 180mm strap that RDQ sells. Because of my own mistake, I ended up frying the de cased Vista. For the time being I will be using a fully cased Vista. To help compensate the 9g I just gained, I switched out the power lead wires to 16g and XT30 connectors.

Naked GoPro Mount

Alt Tag
Out of curiosity, I wanted to mount a Naked GoPro on the 2Fiddy frame and see how it works out. I do not plan to do any crazy freestyle flying when I have the naked GoPro mounted, because there is little to not protect for it. After doing this test, I will remove this mount and only use it if the situation asks for it. While doing a few props test with the Naked GoPro, the Gemfan 5125 Tri Blades seem to work the best. Even though the HQ T5X3 Bi Blades are my favorite, the tri blade props handle a lot better with the extra weight.

245g AUW

Alt Tag
Obviously, this quad will not be under the 250 AUW limit if I have the DJI HD system and Naked GoPro. But to stay under this weight limit, I must use a smaller lipo battery. Ummagawd worked with GNB to develop a lipo specifically for the 2fiddy. Today, I received the GNB 380mah 6s lipo in the mail and it put me at 245g AUW. Even though these cells are rated to be HV capable, I do not plan to charge it that way because in my experience they typically degrade faster when charged to 4.35v per cell.
On my first flight, I was able to get 3:20 minutes when charged as a regular 4.2v lipo. If charge it to HV, I am sure I will get around 4 min of hard freestyle flying. If you do not mind the lower flight times, these GNB 380mah 6s lipos are awesome! Just when you think the 2fiddy could not be any better, wait until your try these 61g lipos. It will put the 2fiddy to a whole different level.

Downgrade ( July 10, 2010)

I want to build a Rekon 5 with a GPS but the only FC I had on hand was a BetaFPV F4 2-6S AIO 35A(BLHeli_32). The problem with that AIO FC is that it only has 2 full UART avalible.

Here are some are some videos of the 2fiddy in different configurations:
I replaced the Flywoo F7 stack for a BetaFPV F4 2-6S AIO 35A(BLHeli_32) because I needed it for a different project. This time around I will used Tommy’s PID settings. I pretty much followed all everything he did in his build video, with the exception of following Betaflight presets:

Vbat Compensation

set vbat_sag_compensation = 100
set vbat_pid_gain = off

HD (smoothed FF for HD cameras, strong low turn rate smoothness, low iterm relax to minimise bounce back)

set iterm_relax_cutoff = 10
set rc_smoothing_auto_smoothness = 20
set ff_interpolate_sp = AVERAGED_3
set ff_smooth_factor = 40
set ff_spike_limit = 55
set ff_boost = 0
set feedforward_transition = 40
set yaw_lowpass_hz = 70
set throttle_boost = 5
set throttle_boost_cutoff = 10
set dyn_lpf_dterm_curve_expo = 7
set gyro_rpm_notch_q = 800

Here are the PIDs for BF 4.2.X. Make sure you are in expert mode because you will need to move some of the slider to the extreme limits and it will not let you unless you are in expert mode. The tune that he has is very aggressive, but it flies well. It is kind of strange that the tune makes the motors sound kind of crunchy, but it works.

How did you fry the vista was the alu standoff and screws? Been ripping naked vista for months now using nylon hw and never had a problem .

wrong17   Aug 26, 2021

It was totally my fault!!! All 4 nuts that was holding down the vista back out because I did not tighten them all the way. So, the boards end up flapping around and it might have shorted something. All 4 screws that were hold down the vista were gone. :) Now I do things differently... I always have a M2 lock nut on top.

Madcatmike3d   May 22, 2021

Very clean build! I was curious if you could tell much of a difference between running an xt60 and xt30?? I'm building one now, and want to go xt30 for the flexibilty and weight. But don't want to have a bottleneck. I'll be running fpvcycle 2204/2800kv on 3s/4s. I'm curious if xt30 will flow enough juice.

wrong17   May 22, 2021

Thanks! I think it really depends on how you fly. Since, I do not fly my quad very hard, my amp drawn is usually low. So the XT30 works well for my application. When you fly, if you full throttle a lot or hold it at full throttle for a long time, then you might consider use XT60. If not, then XT30 should be fine.

Perfect, thank you!!

daich   May 19, 2021

clean build. hoping to build one soon as well. FWIW, I just recently learned the main heat producing chip of the vista is on the other side so I'll be flipping all my naked vistas around as I have all mine installed like yours.

yep, usb on the bottom. the P1 chip, main CPU will then be up top with fresher air...that thing gets hot! no matter what output you have it set at.

wrong17   May 21, 2021

@daich Thanks for confirming! I would have assumed that a lower power output would reduce the heat, but I guess not.

duke_vah   Apr 22, 2021

Nice build. Do you know the thickness of top and bottom plates?

wrong17   Apr 22, 2021

The top plate is about 1.6mm and the bottom is 1.5mm thick. The top is slightly thicker than the bottom. Strange, huh?

duke_vah   Apr 26, 2021

Thanks. yeh, I agree. I thought it would be at least 2mm for the bottom plate. So, 1.5mm can take some beat!

duke_vah   Apr 26, 2021

BTW, do you know the dimension of the quad? from motor 2-4 and 1-2?

fw42   Apr 12, 2021

Nice. How does it fly?

I can not imagine too much of a difference because the motors are the same size, plus the KV on the Ummagawd motors are 1600kv and the betafpv motors are 1700kv.

fw42   Apr 16, 2021

I wonder where the difference in flight characteristic comes from then. Are you using 2004 motors on the Betafpv as well?

wrong17   Apr 21, 2021

The XKinght is using the same size motors, 2004. As I am flying it more, I am starting to like it a lot more! I bought a set of GNB 380mah 6s lipo from Ummagawd and it is a whole different beast.

Currently   Apr 16, 2021

That thing flies forever!

wrong17   Apr 16, 2021

These motors can be very efficient. If I only cruise and not do any freestyle flying I can get double digit flight times.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
