One of the the lens elements on my split started vibrating on the H130CF and Runcam stopped selling the narrow 2.5" lens for the original split which is the only lens that would fit on that frame so new frame! (and motors while i'm at it)
After a month of hunting I finally found a suitable frame that ticks all my boxes, I know it's a clone but it is not completely...
Hantu makes clones of the Mode 2 Ghost line and this is their take on a three inch version.....Mode 2 doesn't actually make a three inch so it's not entirely a clone. :) (If they did I'd be all over it!)
The cool thing is the body is the same size as the rest of the line (6,5 and 4 inch) but in this micro version, the bottom plate is one piece (which i prefer on a micro as it's lighter). This means It has mount holes for 20x20 & 30x30 which was crucial for me as the guts i was transferring over are for 30x30mm (airblade's eclair pro has been out of stock and geprc's sparrow wouldn't have worked because of the AIO's power/usb tab doesn't fit between the two aluminium vertical plates...yes i tried)
So Hantu it is!
The frame is very simple...which I love. It's 155mm stretch-X format. Bottom plate is 3mm, top is 1.5mm. The carbon is OK. I would say good chinese quality but not close at all to anything premium. Although not cut correctly so the arms are a bit flexy, the carbon is cleanly cut and looks on point.
The hardware included looks like it was for the 4"-6" kit as it includes long bolts and nuts for removable arms.
The 20mm standoffs are standard issue but have the middle bit indented...like an hourglass style - which doesn't work with the included 3d printed parts (camera mount and SMA connector mount). I used my own 25mm standoffs which was necessary to fit my triple 30mm stack. Actually the middle "stack" is just a carbon 30x30 plate which I mounted my vtx/rx onto so if I really needed to i could elimate that plate and gain a couple more millimetres.
The camera mount works fine with a bit of stretching for the Split camera which is mini swift sized. I didn't use the rear SMA mount but opted for my own 3d printed mounts for the TBS XF-Race antenna and the Lumenier AXii antenna. This really tidied things up and I think the end result looks pretty slick!
If I wasn't recycling parts and building from scratch I would go for 20x20 goodies like the emax mini magnum 2 stack and the caddx turtles camera/HD-DVR then the guts wouldn't be sticking out like a hungry lizard.
Come back to see the results from the maiden!
PS.. all Hantu's stock pictures of the three inch have the top plate on backwards haha
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

All that is stopping you from doing this with 5" props is longer arms and bigger motors, why 3" instead?
Living in a city makes flying 5" prohibitive. I take my 5" out perhaps once a month and love every second of it.
It's just that I can fly 2.5" and 3" at many local parks around me.
And a 2" quad can be flown nearly every where!
