have been tuned into Tommy's unique designs since the beginning, finally going to build his Acrobrat.
I love the classic clean/dirty design and the spacious 3 stack and low slung stance is pure awesome.
The inclusion of the heaviest part of the quad, the battery, onto the clean side is just genius. This will make the vibration isolation work that much better. I've seen so many other clean/dirty implementations where the clean mass is virtually just the camera which is only like 10% of the mass quad...kind of pointless. Anyway, eager to see how this works out.
This thing is heavy! It will make for some solid freestyle though. The motors should be strong enough to handle the extra weight. It will just mean sticking to 850 packs and not anything smaller like 650 or 450 as they won't be able to handle the current draw, thus the AUW will sit around 300g
So I want to believe that your rig here is amazing. Good 3D printed protection, good antenni, high quality fpc cam, along with HD recording protected by the frame. I just wonder if it's too much weight for 3" props. How is she in the air? Still nimble? Those motors are BEEFY, she might still be quite fast if the amp draw isn't too harsh. So curious.
Yes, she turned out a fatty around 200g before props, ummagrip and battery. I'll try this config out first before I make any changes. If you look at my intrepid v2 build, it handled the gopro session surprisingly well with some tuning tweaks at around 350g. The 1408 motors here are almost the same stator volume as the 1507 in the intrepid so this bird should fly OK, but let's see how maiden goes.
I think if needed, some grams can be saved by removing the motor guards and changing out the eagle to a smaller camera
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

Why two cameras? The nice thing about Runcam is that even with recording they are low latency enough for running the FPV feed from the HD camera. Are you just doing it for multiple tilt angles?
I have been flying numerous micro HD setups. both the split mini and the caddx turtle. One day one of my quads with split mini was having issues so I swapped in an old micro swift to quickly get up in the air. Same quad, same tune, different camera and it felt like a different bird. I was flying faster, closer to objects and with so much more confidence.
It's hard to say what it is. Like you said, latency isn't that much different...maybe it's a combination of little things like latency and clarity. All I know is, my enjoyment of a flight with a dedicated fpv camera is absolutely worth the compromise in extra weight and setup.
