This is a redux of the EMAX Hawk 5 racing quad. The prebuilt Hawk 5 is a fantastic bird with the EMAX Magnum 4 stack but I wanted to find out if upgraded parts would make a difference. Aside from the frame, I am upgrading the esc to the Aikon 30a 4in1. The motors got an upgrade to a 2207 2400kv versus the 2206 2300kv motors that are the original part with the quad. I am hoping for a little more top end at the throttle with the quad on straight aways. The Helio Spring fc, micro: receiver, cam, and vtx were on a quad which didn't turn out the way I wanted and these parts are a better fit for this build. Since I have the AKK Nano 3 Micro vtx and am considering it. The issue is on a racing drone you need to change channels rather quickly in between races. The LED colored lights are really not a good option, which the Nano uses, and I am switching to the Mach 2 vtx. The light weight is a plus but fumbling around on the raceline is not. Next I did the wiring to the Aikon including some mesh wire covering to help against propstrikes and gives the birds wings a little flair. After that I added the small capacitor included with esc and added an X-T60 connector. I have decided to go with a bottom mount battery. Although with the length of the wire for X-T60 I could go top or bottom mount. Putting it all together was a little tricky being the tight fit of the frame. I had some issues with the helio spring v2 with solder pads coming up and the vbat power wire at the fc decided to stop working. I did a workaround, wiring the fc directly from battery voltage and it worked. The fit was tight though. Flying for the first time with an underslung battery felt very different from previous top mounted freestyle builds but this bird on a straightaway punchout, I could feel the top end kick.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
