I call this my ButterChikn because its a Rooster frame running a helio spring imu-f FC (butterflight obviously)
I started out planning to use a 4in1 esc on this one and midway thru i changed my mind so some of the pics were from before the change and some come after. They say this frame isnt good with 4in1s but iif you are careful it can be done but will be tight on space. I also decided to change motors and the camera as well as the 4in1. This thing is light, fast, and hard to kill. The brotherhobby 2207 2700 motors I used for this are hands down the best motors Ive ever used. They are tough to break and very fast with a ton of torque. Ive crashed several times and the motors spin as good as when they were new. I had problems with video noise at first but I rewired the tramp so the camera was powered from the tramp and the video is workiing so well i dont even have toi turn up the power on the vtx. I get good signal over quite long distances even on 25mw. The camera cage does a great job protecting the camera. I fly this every day and its so far been the most fun to fly out of all my quads. The HQ durable props are excellent as well I havent managed to destroy one of them yet, bent yes but no breakage.
Ive also grown tired of destroying battery straps so now ive gone with a kevlar strap from RDQ and i have not managed to snap it no matter how hard I flip or crash. Well worth the investment if you find your snapping a lot of straps they are a little more expensive compared to regular ones but you will only need one and it should last quite a while. Another thing Ive started doing is using different solders for different parts. I find lead free solder is a nice hard solder and its very good to use it on the ESCs, motors, and PDB. The rest of the wiring I use more standard 63/37 solder for vtx and flight controllers. The 63/37 has a much lower working temp so there is less chance of overheating the board/pad. The ESCs play Darude's "Sandstorm" at power up (i love blheli32 escs).
The antenna grommets on this frame are easily shredded so i used some epoxy resin to keep my RX antennas from moving around this seems to work well enough for me. YMMV
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
