The 'Halo RC Archon' is a low profile top mounted battery frame, designed primarily for FPV freestyle flying.

Frame specifications

  • Armattan 3k Matte Carbon Fibre
  • 4mm Arms - 1.5mm Plates
  • Low Profile Top Mount Battery
  • FPV Camera Protection (25-55 degrees)
  • HD Camera Mounting Options
  • Hybrid/Squashed X Motor Layout
  • Chamfered Arms
  • Arm End Motor Protection
  • Spacious Build Area (20mm Height)
  • 7075 Aluminium & Hardened Steel Hardware
  • 5 inch - 235mm - 115g

Frame assembly

The arms of the frame are nicely chamfered and the parts where very clean and had barely any carbon fibre dust on them. Since I read about it I applied CA glue on all the edges with the help of a cotton bud, not sure it is really necessary but it doesn't hurt either :).
The frame came together easily and provides easy access to all components when the top plate is removed.

Motors

I did quite a bit of research on what motors to buy for my first build and finally decided on either 2205 or 2206 2400-2600kv motors from either EMAX, T-Motor or BrotherHobby.
I stumbled on these HaloRC Icarus motors when looking around for a frame and so far I'm very pleased with them in regards to price, quality and performance.
I opted to sleeve the motor wires with PET nylon cable sleeves, mainly for looks and I thought it might also offer a bit protection from the props.

The HaloRC 'Icarus' is a high quality 2205 motor manufactured by BrotherHobby.

  • 2205 - 2500kv
  • N52H Arc Magnets
  • EZO 8x4x3mm Bearings
  • Titanium Hollow Shaft
  • Single Stranded Wiring
  • Tight Air Gap
  • No of Cells - 3-6s
  • 26.3g with 16cm wire
  • 23.2g with no wire
  • 4 x Steel 7mm Screws
  • 1 x Aluminium Locknut
  • 1 x Prop Seat

Conclusion

Since I'm pretty new to the hobby and this is my first 5" drone and build, the drone did suffer a few crashes allready and the frame is still in excellent condition. It's a very sturdy and lovely looking frame (imho) that is fairly light weight.
All in all I am very happy with this frame and build, all I need now is practice ;)

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
