This frame was originally a BNF from Xhover and the original owner sold it to me with one of the motor missing a bell. He did put another bell over the motor and claimed it flew fine, but there is no way I fly a 2206 motor that has a 2207 bell on it. I contacted Xhover to see if they would sell just a bell, but they do not. They did something even better and sent me a used bell for FREE! Take a look at the last picture in the image gallery to see what I had to start with. Also take notice to the different motor on the front right arm.
I could not wait for the bell to come in the mail, so I swap all the motors out with a set of EMAX 2306-2400KV RS Special Edition Motor that came off a Chameleon. Because these motors were originally paired with individual esc I had extended all the wires so it can reach the 4 in 1 esc. After extending all the wires I notice a huge problem, these Emax 2306 motors has the older mounting holes 16 x19mm, whereas the standard now is 16 x16. Because of the different mounting holes and the Xhover Win5L arms (3 holes for the motor) there is no way to position all for motor with the wires pointing inwards. Instead, I had to use a new set of EMAX Lite Spec LS2207 2400kv motors that I planned on using on a different quad. I am glad I went with these 2207 motors because it is a beast! With the setup I have it is fast and efficient too.
I also replaced the carbon fiber top plate with a TPU canopy. Make sure you use some quality screw for the standoff because after my first tumble on the grass the screws were all bent. The standoff where fine but the cheap Titanium screws I bought from ebay bent pretty easy. After switch back to 12.9 screws I did not have any issues. The WIN5L does not come with any Ti screws but I like changing them out so I can shave a few grams.
Update Nov 28 2018: New FPV Camera
I did not like the video quality from the Xhover branded Caddx camera, so I switched it out for a Foxeer Monster Pro Micro. Now the video looks much better.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
