My first DIY drone was a ZMR250 I got from Amazon. I have beaten the hell out of it, and moded it to death with a dremel. I flew it so much the 3mm arms were warped. In the fall I was having de-sync issues with the Makerfire esc's, so I decided it was time to do a complete rebuild. I had already purchased the Racerstar motors, which on the heavy 250 frame were not that impressive, and I had also upgraded to the Matek FC from the original F1 board it was sent with.
I have wanted the Iflight iX5 for a while and the lightweight Spedix ESC's seemed like a good upgrade to solve my de-sync issues. Even at 210mm the frame has a lot of room. I remember when I thought the ZMR frame was too compact - lol. The frame mounts a full size camera, I have used the Eachine C800T for a while, they have a great image and really take a beating. The Matek FC, PDB, VTX combo save a lot of space and reduce the amount of wiring that you need. I like the 5046 props with these motors, get a good three minutes of hard flying and the motors never get hot.
I designed the ESC covers and the blue and red design were completely unintentional, but I went with it - kinda looks cool. The total build without battery is 310g, not the lightest but it feels solid and well balanced. Now I am off to attempt the black art of PID tuning my new build.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
