This is actually 'just' the result of holding one of the PHX-3D canopies with a shark fin in my hand while watching my one-year-old daughter having a really good time playing with her Finding Nemo toys. I realized that I wanted to create a 'Bruce the Shark' quadcopter, and realized that I could take my already proven 7" racing/freestyle architecture, and make it into an absolutely beastly monster.
The heart of the concept is taking a lightweight and aerodynamic 7" racing setup, stuffing a Caddx Turtle camera into the canopy, and adding the most powerful motors I can find. AUW target was originally set at 575g, although the 2508 motors are really quite massive. Similarly, the Turtle added a bit of unexpected weight, and I initially wasn't planning on adding a menagerie of LEDs. If you see all my other builds, you know what a bad assumption that is.
This runs four CL Racing Racewire panels (Blue), and a Tiny'sLED Blue LED panel to backlight the canopy, in addition to a CJMCU 8-LED panel on the back. The Caddx Turtle and the TinysLED are both ran off a dedicated 12V setup with a supplemental capacitor, otherwise this is a pretty standard build.
In order to meet the desired form factor and include SD blackbox recording (<20mm stack height under canopy with Turtle board), I did resort to using an RCharlance F4 Pro2 FC/VTX setup. This does have thermal issues if sitting idle - so I do recommend configuring Betaflight to power down to an idle setting when disarmed - unless you're planning on perching this at long range.
If this fails, the only other option would be a Whitenoise Synergy setup - arguably more attractive, but gets a bit pricy running the V3 Unify that is also capable of 800mW nominal VTX output. The ESC is my favorite Sunrise Cicada 6S 30A ESC - I have five of these now, and despite my best attempts to become an amateur arborist, excavator, and fencing integrity tester, they're all still flying perfectly.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
