My first ever quad was a Diatone GT-R90 that I bought from Grayson's, and had a FrSky XM pre-installed. This proved to be a very bad choice for a first drone... I learned the hard way. I ended up crashing it really hard into cement and completey destroyed the frame. By this time the GT-M2 and M2.5 had come out and you could buy their frames seperatly. So after doing so measuring I decided I'd try to fit my R90 guts into a M2.5 frame. It was only a LITTLE bit bigger, I could run 2.5 props. I also ordered frame parts for the replacement R90 incase this experiement didnt work out. (It did work out and I used the R90 parts to rebuild the 90 for a friend). I also orderd the TBS video board that the vtx mounted to on the newer M series. I had to play around a lot with the billion spacer rings that it came with, but eventually made it work. During the crash one of the low ESR caps fell off and I know at some point I drilled holes in the main bat power connections and ran a cap through that. I cant remember if I kept it in or not. SADLY I lost this drone to a jerkface tree shortly after this awesome rebuild...also lost a few baseballs, countless nights with a slingshot and fishing line, and money to a tree service company to climb up there and get it down.... I really, really, hate that tree. It was never found. Lost to the quad gods. I loved this thing. It flew forever and had tons of power (for me). I also upgraded the camera to a Eagle Micro RunCam, and the recierver to a XM+. Sad to have lost it but I did learn a lot along the way. I know it's old now but if anyone wanted put their crashed guts of a R90 into a different, and stronger, frame - it works with no soldering or adding wire!

Also, F that tree.

I got it back after 5 months, replaced the camera and it still flies. It was waterproofed.

Well, taking that down wasn't exactly cheap (10 drones?) but revenge is priceless... Ok, it actually died 😉

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
