I did this build to try out a few new things that were being talked about, Namely Butterflight and Helio RC and 6s low Kv. I liked both so much that I sold all my 4s batteries for 5 inch quads and put Helio boards with Butterflight on almost all my rigs. 6s is just so much more fun....the flight times I get are better and it is WAY more consistent throughout the pack. Butterflight with Starbuck FU MODE (1.10 IMUF)
is really nice as well. Prop wash handling is sublime, stick feel improved drastically from 3.5.2, and overall the filtering is top notch. I dont worry nearly as much about bent props and my motors sound a lot smoother. So much so that it is usually the first thing someone says about my setup....how smooth my motors sound. One of my buddies who is a care flight EMT compared the sound to a gas turbine engine. I also like to keep my rigs light, because I think that the whole heavy is better for freestyle idea is stupidity of the highest order. It's exactly why you shouldn't buy into bro-science or get setup advice from Mr. Steele. I really like simple frames and the Flosstlye is just that. Simple, doesn't have a lot of screws, relatively light, easy to build and maintain, and very affordable. Why more people dont run it and instead buy flying bricks with vibration induced tuning issues from the likes of Armattan and Impulse RC boggles my mind. 100 bucks for a frame you are ultimately limited by.... I'm sure that will be controversial but damn. If you think I'm crazy just try swapping the guts from one of those into something lighter and better and see if you don't come to agree with me.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
