'Confetti Light' / CherryCraft Sprout 3"

I really liked my old Sprout 3" , it was light and powerful at the same time. Alas, after flying it for 6 months I discovered the "large" motors were killing the small 650mAh batteries way faster than I'd like to. Guess my current draw estimate was too optimistic.

I rebuilt the quad aiming to fit an 850mAh battery while remaining under 250g; with over 30g weight difference this was no easy task!

A list of things that I wanted to keep:

  • motors and ESCs: was not looking to sacrifice any power.
  • replaceable arms: got 5 spares and I like the frame a lot, so...
  • hellgate buzzer: saved my quads a couple of times.

Among others I swapped the 25mm spacers for 20mm, I cut down the extra 5mm of the FC/ESC M3 screws, and I changed the Micro Swift 3 for a Racer Nano.

The biggest weight savers were without doubt:

  • Runcam Racer Nano
  • shorter FC M3 screws (M2 would make much more sense!)
  • shortened main power leads (I was not using the extra 5cm anyway)
This alone amounted for almost 20g.

Other weight savings that did not account to much and were almost negligible:

  • shorter FC cables (do it to have a clean build, not for the weight savings)
  • dipole antenna (in the end I left the polarized antenna on)
  • flat lock nuts (hardly a gram difference for all 4...)

Al in all this build turned out a beauty: slender and powerful as before! My only worry are the cables connecting the ESC and the FC, they seem too fragile and exposed... but I will find a way to reinforce them after taking the pretty pictures ;)

what a clean build. what was your flight time with 650mah batteries? i decided not to choose this motors because of the amp draw.

thanks! I got something around 3 to 4 min with the 650mAh batteries, and if I get >5min from 850mAh I'll be very happy!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
