My first 3" build and second ever drone.

The Sparrow's I've seen always seem to use a stack, and look very cramped. To free up space I used individual ESC's mounted on the arms. It's a tight fit with short wires, but saves a lot of space inside the frame. ESC's are mounted onto felt pads for insulation and I used clear heat shrink to secure them to the arms.

Instead of a VTX stack I used Full Speed VTX that mounts directly to the back of the camera. The only issue I had to deal with for the VTX is how to secure the antenna from the inevitable crashes. I cut a small plate out of CFRP (leftover plate from a BMW i8) and sandwiched it in between the aluminum side plates. I used a little hot glue and squeezed the side plates together. This secured the plate, but still makes it easy to repair as the hot glue just peels off. I cut a small notch in the plate for the antenna and epoxied the base of the antenna lead to the plate.

I also mounted the receiver to the bottom of the plate which made the antenna mounting nice and clean as the leads come straight out from the receiver and go directly into the antenna tubes.

As for flying, this thing rips. On 4S 850mah it's very responsive and punch-out is incredible. It performs far better than I expected.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
