This is pretty much a stock build of the Eachine Tyro 109 with FrSky XM+ 16-ch SBUS Receiver. Although some of the components are a tight fit, this kit is really nice!
Here are a few mods that I did to improve the kit:

  • Fixed the Caddx Camera Power Problem: The Caddx Turbo Eos2 1200tvl camera must be wired to a different source in order to work. The connector on the flight controller for the camera provides 10V, however, this camera needs 3.3 to 6V (according to the "TYRO 109 Quick Start Guide (DYI)", p. 7. There is easy access to a 3.3V pad on the flight controller which I used. There's also a 5V pad that can be used.
  • Enabled Smart Audio: I added a wire to the connector on the VTx and wired it to UART5 on the flight controller. I then enabled Smart Audio in BetaFlight.
  • Added some Foam Above Battery: I added a piece of foam between the battery and the bottom of the frame to protect the battery from rubbing on the bottom screw heads. I secured the foam with a tie-wrap so that it will stay in place.
  • Added Rx Antenna Stiffeners: I added two zip ties and heat-shrink to hold the antennas in a fixed position away from the props.
  • Insulated the Exposed ESC Solder Connections: There is a row of solder pads that stick out on either side of the quad near the bottom where the ESCs are soldered. These can be easily shorted out if not insulated. I used Star Brite (Black) Liquid Electrical Tape to insulate the solder joints.

The finished build weighs in at 330g (0.728 lbs) without the battery. I'm using the Tattu FunFly 4S 1300 mAh (100C) LiPos which weigh ~152g (0.335 lbs). This puts the take-off weight at 482g (1.06 lbs).

Thanks to Jodie Froster for pointing out that the carbon fiber plate that I had positioned above the battery is intended to go BELOW the battery to protect it as a landing gear of sorts. I have corrected and reposted new pics. Thanks!!

While it IS true that you need to protect your battery from your frame screws, that battery pad you have isn't intended to go inbetween the quad and the battery. It goes inbetween the battery and the ground, essentially acting as langing gear

Thanks again, J. Froster -- I reconfigured the battery plate -- much better! Probably will save a few batteries too.

The new position is correct, however it makes sense to protect the battery from the frame. I suggest putting a thick pad of foam rubber between the frame and battery and compressing it all down with the strap. I do this on my quads and I can pick them up by the battery and shake them around and nothing will move.

Yes, thank for the advice. If you look closely at the pic (maybe not that obvious), I put 5mm sort-of-stiff black foam between the battery and frame and tie-wrapped the center of the foam to the frame. Seems to work -- battery doesn't move and is protected from the frame screw heads. Yours is way thicker uncompressed -- looks like a great option!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
