the ion plus frame takes bigger motors than the ion (limited to 08xx) but its a shame as the frame weighs about twice as much as the ion.
so still the ion is crowned as the lightest toothpick frame in my book.
I built the plus up with the traditional formula with ~8,000kv motors and using a FC with the rx built in to keep the weight down
the top plate/cover is printed with some amazing process...looks and feels super sweet. maybe thhe whole quad will be made with that process one day.
as always the attention and the thought put into the design is not only seen but very apparent when building.
13 October 2019 - Maiden Flight. It can take a beating! full speed into hard metal storage box and just picked it up and kept flying!
21 October 2019 - another pack in before the end of the weekend. this was with a betafpv 350mah 2s. pretty good efficiency!

Beautiful design!
How does this fly compared to a toothpick? Doeas the low profile change anything?
thanks!
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

I'm curious how it flies. Do the 1102's have enough grunt to control the T65 props without any spooling effect?
plenty of authority! check out the flight vids. It was actually a great flier. Maybe 65mm press on props would be even lighter, but it handled the T65 really well
That's good news as I am interested in changing my quad from the HQ 65mm press-on props to the T65 bi-blades. My reason for wanting to change is that the press-on ones get "loose" in their grip on the shaft from crashing and then fly off the motor unexpectedly at high rpm on 12800kv motors.
ah, yeah it happens. Did you try the dental floss trick?
the T65 are my favourite 2.5" biblade props, they can handle insane RPM without distorting.
Haven't tested with floss yet. Good to hear that the T65's don't distort as that is another niggle I'd like to get rid of.
yeah, they are nice and stiff. i ran my 11,000kv on 3s no throttle cap and they are scream....super loud
I rarely fly it at 3s now, as it's too much power and too loud. It's just cool that it can do it.
If you're running 2s on the 12800kv motors it should fly well on something less than 70g dry weight, I'd go bigger motors if it is heavier.
