I love this already classic frame. Not only is it well thought-out, but also quite pleasing to work on. And it flies formidable.

My goal was to build an Acrobrat under 250g AUW with 1407 motors, split-style camera and a decent battery. I ended up with the Runcam Split Mini 3 and the excellent Gaoneng 4S 750mah battery that accounts for 92 grams only.

As so many I initially went for the Hobbywing 20a ESC. I found it not only quite difficult to mount as it is a bit too large for the compressed frame layout, especially at the side with the battery pads, but also extremely noisy on the video feed, which could be due to the lack of capacitors on the board. Paired with the Matek F411 mini, it also was a quite heavy stack at almost 20g with all its dampeners and the little brass parts. So I went for the good old HGLRC F428 instead which is still an excellent choice for a compact, light yet powerful micro setup.

I didn't use the stack mount holes in the back and just placed the Nano RX there with some foam tape. The VTX sits right above the FC, also mounted with foam tape to the bottom of the battery plate. This way, the heat can dissipate quite well and the video cable is extremely short. VTX and camera share 5V and ground pads right next to the OSD chip on the FC. This setup has nice clean video even without an additional capacitor.

I tested some Cobra 1407 3700kv first that have been sitting in my drawer for a while, but I found their design a little bit outdated, too heavy for the power they deliver and also not very durable. The original RotorX 1407 4140kv motors are really good and still one of the smoothest and lightest 140x offerings, only hard to source unfortunately.

AUW is 245g with Gaoneng 4S 750mah, dry weight is 153,5g which is not too bad for an Acrobrat with 1407 motors and split-style camera, I guess. No fancy TPU parts of course :-)

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
