Update: Spent some time on a Saturday and managed to get this sucker finished. Even got a short LoS maiden in before the sun went down. Quad is very nicely balanced and smooth. We have not fired up the mobius cam, so no idea what the flight footage is going to look like.

A few notes:

  • YES, we are probably the only people flying mini quads with deans connectors (all our other planes and helis have them, so there...)
  • Thank goodness for good youtube videos. The Taranis / Cleanflight setup was not without drama.
  • Our soldering went well but our wiring is pretty sloppy. Going to take some time to make things pretty.
  • Have not put on the capacitor to address the reported HubOSD video issues. Will do so if things get ugly.
  • Have not changed any of the OSD settings, we are currently running the defaults.
  • Managed to pick up parts for a tiny whoop (minus camera) so we can practice indoors. Too much fun!

New winter project. This is our first FPV quad build. My son and I fly trad R/C helis and planes and are just starting out with FPV quads. We've previously built a LOS-only flamewheel 450 that flew with APM. Fun - but we want to get a taste of the mini FPV scene. This will be a slow build as we follow along with many excellent YT videos. We'll pick up some FPV goggles in a few weeks. If you have any suggestions regarding our list of parts - please comment!

Another recommendation is for the FrSky XSR receiver instead of the D4R-II. SBUS is extremely nice with the naze32 and the XSR is almost half the size of the D4R.

did you choose to purchase a new transmitter instead of using one you guys already have?

The VTX you have listed on there is quite large and fairly expensive you can get a much better quality one for the same price thats smaller.

Try to get blheli s esc, no reason to buy old Tech. The newest one is d-shot 600 if you want the best of the best

Take a look at some of the other new Builds on rotor builds and see what parts are using and which vendors you can get a better price by looking around

Thanks macliffhanger. Yep - we already have the Taranis. Thanks for the tips on the VTX and ESCs. We will do a little more digging around. Appreciate the support as we get started.
