This project has been meandering a bit. It started as a relatively aimless motor purchase that has spiralled to what you see here.
When I started this build I also started a 4in Dave_C MLR build, which came together much more quickly and intentionally. I took my time and made a remix of the original Dave_C frame to accomodate a whoop AIO board. Originally the idea was for this to be run with a tarsier hybrid camera, but the advent of gopro lite builds and kits as well as the insta360 Go FPV mode has now shifted my focus. In addition to better video quality and stabilization moving away from a hybrid camera means that I can use shorter standoffs 15mm in the front four locations and 10mm in the rear two.
A quick test lap on a 3s 550mah battery. The ultimate intent of this build is to run it with the GoPro Lite and a 700mah 4s pack.
Update 8-28-20: I have to get through a couple other things but have some flight footage to edit. Long short of the flight was that I got 8:20 flighttime out of an 850mah 4s pack. This was without a gopro, but never the less still pretty impressive.
I also got curious and decided to see if it would hover with a full gopro. It does it, at about 40% throttle on these 3x2.5x3 props. Im tempted to try some 3x3x3 props for a flight or two to see how it manages. Ill definitely be taking a full gopro test run with my 1505 motor'd 4in.
Update 8-14-21: Swapping out vtx and rx for the TBS sixty9 setup for a little more vtx power and cleaner build. To compliment that Im going to a longer antenna to avoid any signal blockage from the camera or battery.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
