Wanted to build a long range setup for a while, after several months I finally feel like I have it built the way I want.
Initially wanted the Deadcat arms of the Source One, but was out of stock. So I went with X configuration and crossed fingers I wouldn't see props. Few test hovers fortunately didn't have any in view! Initially used a Spedix IS30 4-in-1 that I had in the drawer with varying 4s battery configurations and had voltage sags/brownouts at high-throttle. Making the move to 5s seemed logical and I'll likely experiment with Li-Ion packs before too long. Still relatively a work in progress!
Had to dial in some video/osd gremlins with the icons not being correct and interferance issues. A quick font reload and adding a shield between ESCs and VTX made great improvements.
Next on the list is working out battery life and doing some prop comparison between 7x4x3, 7x3x3, or bi-blade 7x4.5. Hoping to get 10-15 minutes of easy cruising.
Scales show dry weight of 630g and a hefty 923g AUW with RDQ 2200mAh 5s
UPDATE: 7/30 - Gone through a few iterations of this build now. I'm able to run a solid 7min with the 2200mAh 5s on HQ 7x4x3 which I found to provide the best control without sacrificing much fly time. Cruse speed is a modest 40mph and punchouts can reach nearly 100. Bi-blades weren't all that successfull and ended up feeling a bit too floaty and loose. I made a 4s Li-Ion pack out of 20700 cells and got 10 min of fly time, but I'm almost certain these 30A cells aren't enough as the pack is fairly hot coming down. Will likely try a 4s2p 18650 pack soon.
The untimely demise of my session and subsiquent move to an 8 Black necessitated trimming as much weight as I could out of the build. This included removing the arm and front guards, changing to a gopro stock mount, and gram-saving here and there. 668g/963g AUW with 2200mAh 5S
Nice build! How's the performance on 5s with the 2507 1850kv motors?
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
