YAAT - Yet Another Armattan Tadpole

You don't seem to be able to move for swarms of Tadpoles on RotorBuilds these days, so I thought I had better find out why. And there does indeed seems to be a good reason for this; this thing is kind of amazing.

I actually wasn't sure I could pull off building out this frame; the solder pads on a 16x16 stack are not what you could call big, and my eyesight and hand stability are not what you could call as good as they used to be. But, almost unexpectedly, I managed to keep my soldering clean-ish, and it all worked first time I powered it up, which is almost unheard of - there is usually something awry, doubly so with a build like this. So that was good.

And in the air it's pretty much brilliant. It's quick, it really gets about, but is also stable and agile. I made minimal changes to the BF4.1.1 defaults, just dropped the PID slider a bit and upped the filter frequencies, and it flew rather nicely. It's not really 'just like' flying a 5" as some have claimed, at least not for me, but it's much closer than I expected. It took me a few packs to get a feel for it, but by pack #4, it was starting to be really good fun.

Of course you are limited to goggle DVR of the FPV feed, which is horrible, but really, what can you expect from a flying machine that weighs 63g?

Great build! I like the heat shrink over the arms. I was just wondering if this would work and then stumbled across your build. I might take mine apart and do this to tidy it up. Thanks for the inspiration.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
