This Sköll V3 TAQ Edition gave up a posh modeling career to risk it all filming acro shenanigans in the Pacific Northwest.

Huge thank you to Flynoceros and Brock Lee FPV for putting on the Magic Moments video contest, in which I won this frame.

It is 100g lighter than my similar 6S Sköll V2, thanks to a lighter frame, less TPU, nano VTX and micro form factor camera.

Proud to have this build featured on the product page for TinySleds RaceLite Protectors. Maybe it didn't entirely give up the modeling career.

Component Notes:

  • The Unify Pro32 Nano VTX accepts 5-13V, so I used a 12V BEC to power it, with passthrough to the camera.
  • I replaced the stock Micro Eagle lens with the RC25G optic, for a 170º 4:3 FoV. It fits perfectly in this frame, with the front element slightly behind the protective carbon, but without any frame in view.
  • The Hobbywing 60A ESC's pre-soldered capacitor is really badly placed for this frame. A layout like their old 40A 4-in-1, with motor and battery pads on the sides, would be better.
  • This is my first build with TinySleds new protectors - I think they'll work well.
  • XING motors now come with a ridiculously long threaded portion on the shaft. I'm guessing it's to help to keep the titanium from burring and making it difficult to thread the nut.

Specs:

  • Solder Joints: 62
  • Weight: about 700g with CNHL 1100mAh and GoPro Hero
  • Configuration: BetaFlight Settings
  • Peanut Butter: Smooth

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
