Building this quad felt a little bit like going back in time to the era of DJI F450 and TBS discovery. I am very curios to see how this turns out and if the footage coming out of a gorpo hero8 will be of good quality without a gimbal and vibration dampeners as it was the case with TBS discovery and hero1 :).
Even if the quality coming out of the hero8 will be perfect I will still be curios to try an extra light gimbal on this setup just to see how it is two have a separate camera operator on an FPV drone.
Also it is interesting to see what flight time will we pull off with two 6s1p 4000mAh 21700 LiIon packs. I am hoping to get between 25 and 30 min while flying with an average speed of at least 60km/h.
update 14.04.2020: the hqprop 3blade props are way to heavy for these motors. While waiting for master airscrew propellers I started testing with some old DJI flamewheel 10" propellers and it flies a lot better. the hero8 video test (see below) was done with these propellers.
update 10.03.2020: tuning it is definitly not as easy as a 5-7inch especially since these motors are too small for these props. with the defaults PIDs I tried switching it for a second into Horizon mode and it couldn't keep its attitude. I managed to get it to fly decently with the full payload and with the hqprop 9x5x3 but I didn't have time to test it in any autolevel(angle) mode. The autolevel mode needs to work for GPS rescue to work since this is supposed to fly really far away. I will post DVR from it but first I want to test different, lighter props on it. I am trying to get my hands on these props: https://www.ripmax.de/master-airscrew-9x4-5-mr-propeller-set-2-stk-or.html
the good news is that even though I flown it in very powerfull wind, it had no vibrations visible on the FPV that could also affect the FC. I am very confident it will fly well after I find the right props and PIDs.

Are you still working on this one?
What is tuning something that big like? What BF are you running? Feel free to post a flight DVR :)

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..

would you mind sharing your pid's so i could use it as a base to tune my DC10 running 9x5 Aerocam props ?
I can share the PIDs but they will only apply if you have the same trust to weight ratio and similar motor-prop combo. anyway, in my case the PIDs are not far from default ones. for larger quads I strongly recommend that you take the time to understand basic PID tuning for you to be able to do it yourself. its not that hard and on alrge quads you can really feel the difference. send me a PM on facebook and I will share them to you when I have the quad around me: https://www.facebook.com/paul.mijoiu

set p_pitch = 56
set d_pitch = 53
set p_roll = 52
set d_roll = 50
that's everything I have changed related to PIDs. it is from a Diff. I didn't touch the filtering.
