Tinyhawk freestyle mod

The tinyhawk freestyle is an awesome micro...super fun but is limited by a crap 25mw vtx & rx....

You cant fly around thick brush or your neighbors wife without rx loss or hitting fail-safe.

So its time to empty my swear jar at coin star & find some parts to send it.

First order of business... Upgrade the vtx and Rx..
Found an awesome sled on the site where I bought some leds that allows you to mount a TBS Nano VTX and XM+ rx.
Let me tell you...if your jacked up on three cans of rockstar and a bag of skittles this is not a soldering task for you... my swear jar is now re filled with enough cash to buy dji products.
You will definitely need some helping hands and a magnifying device to be sure your soldering joints arent bridging on the original vtx pins and that the gaps between the sled & vtx have solid connection/support.
The sled allows you the option to use a crossfire setup but Im a cheap a55... and the XM+ was only $12, Ive gone out to a little over 1.5km previously with this rx which is more than enough range for any micro.

Next was finding a camera that didnt make everything look like I was watching cc tv from 7/11 robbery footage, so a runcam racer nano was added... rather than 3d print out a mount, I found a complete frame from microheli that came with a proper camera mount and changed the overall airframe.
Everything is a straight forward swap... snip the zipties for the motor wires, & vtx antenna... and bam doneski...
The down side to this frame is the *THE USB PORT CANNOT BE READILY ACCESSED** which is super annoying having to take it apart anytime you want to adjust betaflight settings.

I experimented with gem fan 2540 props in pic but I have come to the conclusion they are brittle, the motors seemed to be overworked & struggled due to the flex, and increased pitch... I found its best to utilize stock emax Avan props as they provided the best durability pair that with some modified PID settings this micro flies suprisingly better the most 5" stock quads...

My range on this quad has more than quadrupled with this setup... no more signal loss across my yard. even with the vtx cranked up to 400mw it had enough penetration behind trees to make your ex girlfriend jealous. I am still getting 7-8 min of aggressive flight times with two 1s 650 gnb lipos.

This is a fun quick corona virus-isolation build that will definitely get the most range out of your tinyhawk.

LMAO Your write-ups are amazing. The quad builds are pretty good too!

i used my THFS as a testing rig for several things and it came to a point that i said "wow this thing isnt breaking". I made some custom mountings and tried it with 3" on 2s. IT FELT GREAT. In short, the board is great and i hope to see more mods like thiss!!

Awesome timing! My cousin is sending me his THFS for exactly the upgrade you have done! The sled is nice! Thanks a lot! 👍👍👍

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
