This is the first version of our FPV 5 inches freestyle quad.
We wanted to build a cheap drone, without giving up a good performance.
With this in mind, we decided to use a F7 Holybro Kakute All In One as a flight controller, and after one year of flights I can confirm that is really reliable, with a large number of UARTS: that's perfect for any quad. The original frame designer suggested to use 2204 motors, but we preferred to upgrade them to the Racestars 2205 2300KV version. These motors have a very good performance for this setup and they work like a charm (even after many crashes).
This build uses the 35A HAKRC DSHOT1200 ESCs that are very solid and work great.
The Caddx Turbo camera provides good quality images, especially if coupled with a good 1000uF Low-ESR capacitor on the battery main leads.
The VTX is a Eachine TX801 that provides current directly to the camera.
Since camera and VTX are energy demanding, in order to have a clean video, we have to provide the same exact ground potential to both. In order to reduce noise on video signal then, I suggest to add a cable that connects the negative of the camera (powered by the VTX's negative output) with the ground pad on the FC that you use to provide the negative to the VTX .
This setup, coupled with a Pagoda 2 antenna, will give you high quality images with a huge range (500-700 m) at only 200mW.
The Batteries used are 4S:
In order to print the Peon230 frame, I suggest to use PETG instead of PLA or ABS for its mechanical properties. You will find more informations at this link Peon230
As for the build, also the Gear were not chosen to be the best ones, but rather to be a good starting point.
For this reason the cheap Eachine EV800D is perfect for beginners. It has a built in DVR to record all the flights, that's a very useful feature in the case you lose your quad: you can view the recorded video in order to understand where to search in an accurate manner. It also has a 5.8GHz Video receiver with a double diversity antenna, that we suggest to use with both a omni and a patch antenna (included with goggles).
The FlySky FS-i6X is a very cheap radio, but we think it's the best at its incredible price. It does its job well enough, in terms of reliability and initial needs, and it's a lot better than we expected before purchasing it. Of course you have to renounce to some features that other transmitter may have, but you can get one at about 40€.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
