General

Decided to build another ToothPick/Twig with some bigger motors. From the weight of this, this is rather a Twig, than a Toothpick, which I think is great, since you have some weight to throw around (~100g with 450mAh 3S) and you're not hit that hart by gusts. The 1203 motors have an easy time spinning the Gemfan 65mmS, I might switch to some 2540 or 2535 to get some more power. Otherwise the iFlight board is rocksolid and it flies super nice with rpm filtering. All in all this is a great little quad for backyard bashing / proximity flying. On 2S it is very manageable, even in smaller areas, while on 3S there is enough power to do almost anything. The 7min+ flight time on 2S with virtually no voltage sag is also a big plus.

I paid around $110 for everything.

Build

Build was super easy (only 8 wires to solder), only thing was that the original Gemfan 65mm didn't clear the canopy. The 65mmS fit just fine.

I used some longer screws to tighten the canopy (18mm), for the motors I used the included screws. The cables of the motor are bit long for the 65mm size. I wrapped them with electrical tape, so they follow the arm profile, which prevents them form hitting the props.

The 2G4+ANT Version of the canopy offers holes for antenna tubes used to protect the XM+ antenna and putting them at a slide angle to each other to increase range. The linear 5Ghz antenna is held neatly by the little hole at the back.

I've been looking for a small fpv drone and I think this is the best one I have found by far.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
