First Build

This is my very first build. I'm afraid to show my soldering jobs on the motor wires but everything else came out great. I'm running BF 4.2 with Bidirectional Dshot and RPM filters. It flies but it has a lot of wobble. I am now immersed int he world of PID tuning and failing miserably so far. I almost wonder if there is a mechanical issue.

I have had a lot of strange wobbles and oscillations with a couple of smaller machines, and a Tadpole. I tried all sorts of things to try to smooth the flight out, and in the end the two biggest things that helped were BF4.2 with RPM filtering, which you already have and isn't helping, and changing the PWM frequency of the ESCs from 24kHz to 48kHz (details here: https://oscarliang.com/best-blheli-32-settings). The latter completely solved the issue of mid-throttle oscillation I was seeing on two 3" machines.

I also put bi-blades onto the Tadpole; the tri-blades were a bit much and added far too much jello to the video.

make sure you soft mount the flight controller, that can help a lot. And check out UAVtech on youtube. He has a ton of great videos on tuning pids. If you take a look at Joshua Bardwells RPM filter video, he shows a good starting point, i copied it and my newest build went from awful to damn near perfect.

I've got the FC soft mounted but I am wondering if I may have it screwed down too tight. I just finished Bardwell's video on RPM filters and I am on to UAVTechs video on tuning a 2 inch quad with sliders. I tried all afternoon fiddling with sliders and couldn't tune out the wobbles. I'll try more tomorrow. I appreciate your quick comment.

yeah for sure. thats a big thing, because if you screw it down too tight the gummies just get crushed. Yeah as long as you are patient, you'll get the quad flying good. keep in mind, the little quads are moe difficult to tune so don't expect perfection. good luck!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
