I was sold on this concept after having watched Dave_C_FPV's videos on this latest design of his. I've built this basically "stock", using the same motors & props Dave_C uses. Everything feels proportioned just right.
The build was straight-forward & a lot of fun. I did find printing the cam pod a bit challenging, but that's probably just me still dialing in my settings for TPU and placing supports.
The frame was cut by CNCMadness. I opted for the "premium" version, which basically means chamfering and countersunk holes, which is great!
Update after actually flying it:
Update 7/11/21:
I designed an adapter to mount my naked GoPro Hero 8 using the native prongs in the iFlight case (Thingiverse link). This should also work on the Rekon 5, since AFAIK that is just the commercial version of this frame.
what printer have you used for printing the tpu? it turned out quite well!
Thanks! I'm using a Sovol SV01. Most parts print easily in TPU with it. The cam pod on this quad was a challenge due to the various 90 degree overhangs that needed supports, and finding a balance between sufficient support while still making them somewhat easy to remove (TPU has great adhesion, and supports tended to fuse with the part more). I’m sure it can be tweaked more.
I'm building same drone. same parts except 1600kV and XT60.
have you tried the 6s li-ion pack for more power?
No, I haven't tried 6S li-ion. Unless there are lighter cells than I have in my 4S pack, I feel it would really be pushing it in terms of weight. If you try it, please let me know how it goes.
I haven't done the math see if still stay in motor efficiency range but figured atleast it's weighs 50% more but ur getting 50% more rpms. I plan on testing. I'll let u know but I will probably wait to finish build on dji fpv goggles
