I did a rebuild of my 3" Gecko with a new 4" bottom plate. I've also upgraded the ESC from the Mamba F25 to the F30, and flashed JEsc 24 kHz instead of 48 kHz this time.
After the first flights it's clear the nimble Gemfan 4023 props are a better match than the heavy Gemfan 4032's for the motors, which I didn't upgrade. I've replaced the camera with a Tarsier so it can shoot HD footage, and I replaced the VTX with an AKK model which has a microphone. I'm not convinced it's quality can match the Rush Tiny Tank it had before though...
The weight increased with 27g but with the bigger props it seems more efficiënt and I'm getting an extra minute of flight time!
For the maiden flight (during winter time) I didn't want to take too many risks so no fancy freestyle tricks, but it does show the potential of this kwad:
Hey
I'm building a similar build for a buddy and found out that none of the cam mount holes are ideal. If I take the front one like you do, my tarsier lenses are not 100% protected by the case.
On your pictures it looks like the cam is within the cage, even with the ND filter. Did you do something special like bend the pieces, or is it just an illusion in the photos?
Cheers!
Hi there. The brace doesn't completely protect the lenses, they stick out 1-2mm on top and in the front (bottom of the lower lens). It's not ideal but the braces don't fully protect the camera anyway:
