Armattan Bobcat LR 4" MAG Edition

we decided to keep in the 4" mood but with a new frame, and expected top quality components : a MatekSys ecosystem for FC-VTX-GPS, Hobbywing Xrotor 4-1 ESC, T-Motor engines and TrueRC antenna. Weight was also taking in account while choosing the setup.

The first version of our Armattan Bobcat 4" had her maiden flight with stock PIDs and tunes. Kind of smooth, it was plugged on a 4S 1300mAh. Not really nervous, more like a long range cruising tank! Needs more flying tests but I'm sure it will do a good cruising companion.

So far I didn´t had time to test it on mid range and long range. I'll post update regarding those tries.

The Bobcat looks very good, but few remarks (also pointed by other people) :

1) I do not have a scale right now but sure once complete with battery it is not a sub 250g (I will try soon with a 450mAh and 700 and 850). I tried to choose lightweight components. Correction : The quad equipped with a 4S 450mAh weight 249g ! I was wrong. But it is still not really lightweight for a micro long range quad.
2) There is no designed space for the GPS module. 3D printing is mandatory to make a clean build on this one. On mine I just zipped it on the cover plate, making it fragile. I have so far only compliments to the Matek GPS module, catching Sats in seconds. Nice move from the the slowly stock one from Flywoo.
3) I had an additional Caddx Ant nano but will definitely put another one, because I am not happy at all with it (edit : replaced by a Caddx Ratel 2)
4) So far the T-Motor 1404 3800kv are doing very well. They are marketed as long range 4" compatible (let´s put them to the limits)
5) The mount dimensions on the stern of the frame is 16x16 which is not suited for mounting correct long range VTX analog. Needs some adaptation.
6) Needs TPU landing pads under motors.

The Armattan frame was very easy to assemble. Took me two days to assemble and configure everything, taking my time and making sure everything is in order.

Test Report 03.14.2021 :

  • PIDs, Rates, and filters were modified via Betaflight. The quad is now not only smooth, but also super agile, and the "tank" flying sensations is gone.

  • Total Weight without a battery : 194g. Total weight with a battery (4S 450mAh) : 249g / (4S 1300mAh) : 341g

  • On a 4S 850mAh Tattu LiPo we have easily 10 mins of flight time in a crusing longe-range style and VTX setup, speed average less than 60kph (wind speed conditions between 5 and 10 knots). Maybe more with perfect weather conditions.

  • iFlight Nazgul 2 blades 4030 are so far our best choice for props (compared to Gemfan and HQ Props 2Blades 4")

  • Camera needs to be replaced. (was replaced by a Ratel 2)

yeah agreed, it´s the stock one coming with Hobbywing's Esc, didn´t have any other at the moment. Not the final version of the build anyway!

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
