Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle Custom Rebuild

I did this build because my Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle had a bad gyro and wobbled at all times when flying. I really liked how small and quiet this little quad was though so I used extra parts I mostly already had to rebuild it and get it back in the air again. My neighbors don't seem to mind this little guy going up and down the street. The only original parts on this THF2 are the frame (slightly modified) and the motors.

The flight controller and ESCs are an All In One board. The Jhemcu GHF411 Pro F4 3-6S AIO Toothpick/Whoop Flight Controller w/ 35A 4in1 ESC. I had to add a little carbon to the sides of the frame in order to have all 4 mounting points for the board. The 35 amp ESCs are a big upgrade from the 5 amp factory EMAX ESCs. So no more worrying about popping an ESC by using turtle mode or because a blade of grass is preventing one of these weak motors from spinning.

The Camera is the Foxeer Toothless 2 Starlight. This is a great camera that gives a fantastic daylight picture and has the added advantage of allowing you to fly at night and actually see where you're going.

The receiver is a TBS Crossfire Nano with an Immortal T antenna. Big upgrade over the EMAX SPI receiver and whip antenna.

The VTX is a TBS Unify Pro32 Nano 400mw with a TBS Triumph Pro antenna. Big upgrade from the EMAX 200mw VTX and whip antenna.

It's 22 grams heavier that it was originally and did not fly well on the EMAX Avan Rush 1.9 pitch props so I've changed to Gemfan 2540 props. The 4 inch pitch gives it a lot more thrust and makes this little quad fly pretty well. A heavier pitch draws more amps so they might not be a good idea for the EMAX AIO board, but I have 35a rated ESCs now so that's not a fear I have. This quad is still very quiet when flying and it's been a lot of fun. It doen't look the greatest but I don't care about that. I just want it to work and it does.

Dry weight is 71 grams. 99 grams with a 450mah 2s battery. I get about 4 minutes of flight time with this setup if it's not windy out and about 3 minutes 30 seconds when it is pretty windy.

I can't help but think this is kind of a silly build. It's pretty expensive for what it is. The price below reflects the cost if you already have a Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle that's no longer working. That basically makes it like any other build but with a free frame and motors. The flight controller from EMAX is pretty expensive by itself and I have not had good luck with them in the past. I guess the EMAX AIO board is a true AIO and cheaper when you consider it also comes with a VTX, antennas and a receiver onboard, but I like the extra range and penetration I get with this setup. And I did have all of these parts, with exception of the camera just lying around.

how did you add the carbon to the frame for the

I sanded the frame, then laid up carbon fiber and West System Epoxy resin, then sandwiched the bottom plate between 2 flat pieces of aluminum, then cooked it in an oven at 200f for an hour or 2. Then just trimmed the carbon how I wanted it.

I don't recall. It was most likely default Betaflight PIDs. I don't really know how to tune a quad, but I can build them.

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
