Liked the look of the rekon 5 but there's a lot of wasted space in the frame so I decided to squash it down 5mm in height. I wanted something lightweight which could carry a SMO 4K and do some lazy freestyle without the hassle of charging and carrying a ton of 1000mah 6S or larger lipos around.
I replaced the standoffs to go from a 25mm-front/20mm-rear to a 20mm-front/15mm-rear build. Leaves enough space to run wires over the Vista to the FC and the FC is sitting on a vibration-isolating TPU mount.
Camera holder is obviously replaced, using the original model from thingiverse but scaled to 80% height (25->20mm) and all other dimensions left the same. I also printed the version with a ghost mount underneath, allowing me to mount the ExpressLRS antenna there.
I used a JHEMCU 35A AIO as these have worked well for me before.
Motors are the T-motor F2203.5 @2850KV, as they have a 12mm mount as required with this frame.
The eLRS RX is wedged on top of the FC, I may relocate if it shows a tendency to carry vibrations into the FC. I added a 470uf 35v capacitor behind the camera in the nose.
And of course I used some yellow tape and matched the prop nuts to the stand-offs for a snappy finish.
First flight seemed good, now to see how much filtering I can remove. Impressions are generally positive but the F2203.5 motors are more sedate than I would expect for 2850KV on 4S with a 5" prop. It moves around but isn't that snappy, lovely and stable tho. Maybe I'll go crazy and try a 6S 550mah on there at some point.
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
