Whelp, I blew my esc in my previous 5in build Jerky'5 Nazgul5 while flying the Lake Superior winter coast line in the Michigan Upper Peninsula last week. Unsure of whether it was a bad motor/esc match or just a bad esc all together. Some trusted dronies are completely against iFlight electronics so falty hardware may have played a part if you ask them. However, I'll even say after playing the moment in my head over and over, It most certainly could have even been user error on part of it being totally possible for water to have been on the esc (considering it was snowing at the time).
Either way, it had to be fixed and it was an opportunity to improve on my previously hidous wiring, soldering job and complete layout, really. Which is why I have it as a new build entirely.
I can proudly say, though there is still a bit to be desired, I accomplished those goals...
-It is fixed and flies much better than its predecessor (probably because it is MUCH lighter. I have no proof of its weight before but by feel alone, it is a world of difference).
-I can actually tolerate looking at my soldering joints and have full confidence they wont detach mid flight.
-It is clean! Besides the new components and color scheme, all internal wires are exactly the length they need to be. Not too short, not too long. The only issue I have is my motor wires. I was not thinking and did a half assed job measuring their length and did not match them up all that well. That said, they're not that far off. I noticed it in a picture and did a bit to fix it but decided not to obsess. More to improve for the next build I guess!
Other changes/ additions are the gps module, capacitor/ xt-60 plug, HappyModel ExpressLRS rx mount/ t-antenna undermount, and I reprinted all the tpu parts in clear as the cookie cutter Nazgul highlighter yellow look was starting to hurt my eyes. Love the frame though! I have high hopes for this HGLRC F760 stack. It was recommended to me from the Detroit FPV show discord server and I really want it to perform as sexy as it looks. Only time will tell and I intend to test it... Without water involved this time (although it does come pre-conformal coated, which is convenient!).
Wish me luck!
AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..
Read moreWith the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
