Hej,

I have always wanted to fly a proper 5" build and have actually built a really poor build 2018. After some hurdles I have reconsidered my flying altogether, have learned to fly on an FPV Cycle 1-cell 3" BabyTooth and a similar size but 2S craft. After this I have built a 4" quad, practiced even more on that. 4 years later is 2022 I have felt ready for the 5" journey.

The 5" build has quickly become a 5,5", when I have discovered the Hook v2 frame from Piratframes. Looked like the business end of things. Mini-sized camera, 30x30 stack, lot of space for VTX and quality hardware all around.

After having made a detailed comparison of which motor perform best against different KPI (key performance indicators) I have opted for the RCinpower Wasp Major. It has the most power per volume and the most thrust per ampere according to my analysis dated first half of 2022.

I have went for FETtec stack, G4 FC and 45A ESC. Love the graphical OSD of FETtec, the very nicely tuned rates and PID's are also close to my liking.
FETtec ESC's have a nice feature. You can add capacitors not only on the DC-in side, but even on the 4 corners. So I have done precisely that. Added 35V capacitors on the 4 corners and a gigantic 50V 1000 uF cap on the DC-in side along with a FETtec spike absorber.

I have tried plenty of different cameras previously and have realized that racing cameras have the best picture for my taste. I can see everything, yet the image is pleasing to me. Looks like a computer game from my childhood but with inifinitely better graphics, yet still pixely, if you understand the far-fetched analogy.

I have purchased differet batteries. Some CNHL Pizza 1200 mAh, some CNHL 1300 mAh Black and some GNB 1300 and 1350.
Just to practice Five33 Freedom Spec I have even some 3S 2200 mAh packs.

The quad flies like a beast, I have only started testing it. More flying to come....

AirbladeUAV has done it again and this time they've brought long range to the 5" class! Based on the popular Transformer Mini, the new Transformer 5" Ultralight adopts a lot of the same design philosophies with larger props and more payload capacity. It can fly upwards of 20 minutes on a 4 cell Li-Ion battery pack and in ideal conditions it's got a range of over 4 to 5 miles. In this guide I'll walk..

With the release of the DJI FPV Drone cinematic FPV has become a lot more accessible, but you certainly don't want to crash a $750 drone! The QAV-CINE Freybott is a compact, lightweight cinematic FPV drone that can take a hit and keep going. It's a lot safer to fly indoors and around people. With a naked GoPro or the SMO 4k you can capture some great stabilized footage. In this guide I'll show you..
